With its smooth, rounded edges and contemporary, structured silhouette, the Ida is a distinctive addition to Tusting’s handbag collection.
To celebrate its launch, we spoke with our designer Anna about the creative process behind the design.
What features are you most proud of?
I'm especially proud of the bag's structural design and the specific choice of the turn lock. We've supported the closure with hidden magnets to make it really seamless to use. The way the flap naturally integrates into the overall structure is very satisfying. I also appreciate the versatility of the top handle for hand-carrying, complemented by a long, adjustable, detachable strap that allows for crossbody wear. The bag’s capacity is surprisingly generous for its size, comfortably fitting all the essentials.
What was the inspiration for the Ida?
The Ida was inspired by the elegance of a classic, vintage-style bag, but reimagined through a lens of clean, modern minimalism. The organic curve reflects the tranquil hills of the English countryside. The turn-lock on top can be used in an easy way, making it functional while still looking refined.
I was heavily influenced by the trend towards refined, understated bags and the growing demand for smaller, more efficient bags. I wanted to create a piece for a modern individual who values clean aesthetic, quality craftsmanship, and versatile design.
In what situations or settings do you imagine someone using the Ida?
The Ida is designed for situations that demand effortless sophistication. The compact size makes it a perfect companion for someone who needs to transition seamlessly from a daytime to an evening event. It’s perfectly suited to occasions such as an art gallery opening or a formal dinner. It also transitions effortlessly to events like the races, Wimbledon, or evenings away on holiday.
