This year we’ve been sponsoring enthusiastic leather design student Kayleigh Gunnion at the University of Northampton.
Kayleigh has prepared six fabulous designs for her final submission, these include four shoe designs and two bags. The collection was inspired by old fishing boats and reflects this seafaring theme in the clinker-style layering of leather in the designs.
All the pieces in Kayleigh’s collection have been exhibited at the university’s own fashion show to showcase the students’ work, at London Fashion Week and now her collection has been selected to go forward to the niche show “New Designers”.
This show brings the very best in the UK’s graduate design talent to meet industry employers, the media, trend predictors and a design hungry public. It is seen as an essential resource for all who attend and an invaluable springboard for all who exhibit.
Our sponsorship of Kayleigh included making up the two amazing bags for her submission and supplying the leather for all her pieces. We are now going on to develop a production version of this bag pictured, called “Kingfisher” here in our workshop.
We wish Kayleigh great success. Keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter for updates to her and the bag’s progress. Meanwhile, you can see images of the whole collection on our Facebook page’s photo’s.
