The Soleil has a full leather base which is reinforced by a lightweight board made from recycled leather to give the bag stand and shape. The full leather handles are softly rolled and padded for ultimate comfort in the hand. Inside, there is a generous zipped security pocket and two slip pockets to take care of phone, pens and other fast-access bits and bobs. Soleil carries its little red, stitched cross low on one leather end band and its individual numeral in the interior logo patch.

The Inside Line…
The beautiful Stone Cotton Drill for the bags is double-bonded for stand and strength and this also provides waterproofing as water won’t go through the bonding layer. Expertly made in Northern Ireland, this fabric is protected with a dirt- and water-repellant coating – it brushes clean well and is fully wipeable and even washable (can be spot-cleaned).
The Flame-Red lining fabric is made in Scotland by one of our favourite fabric suppliers. It carries a completely dry, waxed and air-tumbled finish for a water-repellent soft-touch feel. As such, it too copes well with being wiped clean.
The leather on these bags is our much-loved Chocolate Montanasoft. This is created in a tannery in Germany which has received the highest (gold) rating from the Leather Working Group which has set stringent guidelines for environmentally safe leather production, and to which we insist all our partner tanneries adhere. Strong, soft and extremely durable, Montanasoft provides the perfect partner to these outstanding fabrics.
Each bag carries the special combined interior logo for the collaboration and a tiny red, stitched cross denoting the handcrafted nature of the bags. Each is then individually numbered in numerals created from India’s own handwriting, so that every piece is unique.
Behind the Collaboration
The whole team here at Tusting is delighted to be collaborating with India Hicks, whose enthusiasm for our team’s talents is so encouraging. India is a writer, designer, former model and all-round creative force. It all began over a year ago when India approached us to recreate her then-fiancé David’s much-treasured but tired old Tusting bag as a wedding present for him. The pandemic may have delayed their wedding a year, but the bag was presented on time and has inspired India’s designs for this first collaborative collection.
India has been deeply involved in the whole process of development, ensuring that the designs play to our strengths as makers and the materials are not only of the very highest quality, but also connected to her own spirit and aesthetic. The cotton drill is made in Ireland, where India used to revel in long summer holidays with her grandfather. The happiness-inducing orange-red lining is chosen not only for its perfect rendition of a flame tree in full bloom (a favourite in India’s Bahamian garden) but also for its dry-wax coating, a must since India is known to tote about bunches of flowers, wet bathing suits and the occasional puppy.
Like India, these bags have an uplifting adventure-ready vibe which says, simply, ‘Let’s do this!”.
