We’ve long been huge supporters of the Walk The Walk initiative led by charity founder and CEO Nina Barough, CBE.
Even if you don’t recognise the name straight away, you’ll probably be familiar with the stellar work carried out by Walk The Walk. It’s the grant making charity behind the formidable Moonwalk events, and has raised over £111 million, much of which has been granted towards vital research into breast cancer, and to help those with cancer now.
Last year we were delighted to create a bag for Nina (the beautiful Erica), crafted out of the material used to create the Moonwalk’s ‘Pink Galaxy’, the tent used for pre-event warming up and post-event parties.
The size of two football pitches, this iconic circus tent was created especially for Moonwalk in 2006 and has become as synonymous with the event as the trademark decorated bras of the Moonwalkers’, of which our very own Product Sourcing Co-ordinator Diana is one this year.
Diana, along with five friends and her sister-in-law, will this year be power walking the 26.2 midnight miles as ‘Team Merlot’. This year is the 20th anniversary of the event which has prompted the theme of the roaring 20s, with a night of flappers and feathers expected in London.
Each and every member of Team Merlot has been touched by breast cancer in some way, and Diana herself has battled an early diagnosis. Saying she’s more than happy to pay it forward, Diana has found the training incredibly challenging and has been working up to the marathon distance for the last 12 months. A self-proclaimed early riser, Diana thinks one of the toughest parts of the walk will be the night time hours, and is looking to the camaraderie and support of her team to get her through the difficult miles.
As part of the challenge all participants in the Moonwalk proudly wear their support on their chest with one of Walk the Walk’s bras, individually decorated to the entrant’s tastes. 15,000 walkers pounding the street in their bras are quite a sight – one might say the true meaning of raising awareness!
This year and true to theme, Diana has decorated her bra flapper-style with tassles and feathers – we think it’s a fabulous look for the event. You can sponsor her at her fundraising page here, or visit the Moonwalk website to register your interest for next year’s event.
Good luck, Diana!
